About

Maycon-Sedrez-2018Maycon Sedrez is a Brazilian architect and urban designer, artist and educator with background in computational design and digital fabrication.

Maycon was born in Blumenau, south of Brazil. He studied at and dedicated part of his career to the University of Blumenau, in which he obtained a Diploma in Architecture and Urban Design in 2002, amongst the best students.

In 2009, he obtained his Masters Diploma with excellence in Architecture and Urban Design and Planning from the University of Santa Catarina. He developed teaching material for an online course about fractals and creativity. Together with a colleague, he started the architecture practice EstúdioM2 Architects working on interior design, renovations and architectural design.

In 2016, he obtained his PhD Diploma with excellence in Architecture, Technology and City from University of Campinas. He developed a thesis about Complexity and Architecture, studying new design technologies for design and fabrication to produce complex shapes. Again, fractal geometry was present in his research, a topic of controversy and extreme potential for design.

Maycon has taught computer-aided architectural design at FURB and UFSC, computational design at UNICAMP and TU Braunschweig, urbanism at TU Braunschweig, and digital fabrication at AA Visiting School and LAPAC. He is a free-lancer architect and designer focusing on competitions and research, and is currently teaching fellow at the University of Nottingham Ningbo, China teaching architecture and urbanism. In 2018 he co-edited the book Contemporary Architecture and Automation (in Portuguese). His research areas include complexity and architecture, parametric design, digital fabrication, technologies and urbanism. His teaching areas include CAAD, Parametric Design, Complexity, Sustainable Urbanism and Creativity.
